Uganda Harm Reduction Network as a national hub of PWUDs through its programming is committed to raise awareness and promote effective access to quality prevention, treatment, care and support services for people who use drugs living with and affected by HIV, TB, Hepatitis and other related health issues and lobby and advocate for a national platform for better health and policy programmes that promote good practices and supportive environment for the expansion and implementation of harm reduction programmes for people who use drugs (PWUDs) in Uganda.

AN HCT ACTIVITY PHOTOES HELD IN KALERWE ON 26th  JUNE 2014 TO COMMEMORATE THE INTERNATIONAL – DAY – AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING SUPPORTED BY UGANDA HARM REDUCTION (UHR) IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MARPI MULAGO UNDER THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH.

On the 26th June 2014 Uganda Harm Reduction in Partnership with Most at Risk Populations Initiative (MARPI Mulago) under the ministry of Health conducted an HCT activity to deliver integrated HIV counseling, testing and treatment services to the key population group of people who use drugs in Kalerwe Dhobi zone, kawempe division – Kampala City. The event was organized to commemorate the International – Day – Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was graced by a sensitisation session for drug users from Kalerwe Dhobi zone, kawempe division – Kampala City.

The objective of the HIV Testing and Counseling (HCT) activity was to deliver integrated HIV counseling, testing and treatment services to the key population group of people who use drugs in Kalerwe Dhobi zone, kawempe division – Kampala City.  The activity was manned by Uganda Harm Reduction in partnership with MARPI Mulago under Ministry Of Health. Three Uganda Harm Reduction Network (UHRN) Staff and IDPC visit to see the progressive harm reduction services in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In November 2012, the Uganda Harm Reduction Network (UHRN) sent a delegation of three staff to visit the progressive harm reduction services in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The study visit was coordinated and funded by the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and Harm Reduction International (HRI) as part of the on-going network development in Africa. Two IDPC staff also took part in the visit.

The purpose of the dialogue was to engage UHRN members (the young people most affected by HIV) in a discussion about HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights also document their views on HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights; experiences with HIV and sexual and reproductive health services; and perspectives on inclusion in policy-making processes and all aspects of decision-making that affects their lives.The dialogue was organised by UHRN, attended by 27 young members between the age of 15- 30 (who are young people living with HIV, drug users-IDUs and sex workers ), 3 UHRN staff including the Director, Jacquelyne Alesi Mugenyi from Uganda Young Positives and focal person of ATHENA –LinkUp project in Uganda who was invited as  an observer  but  ended up engaging in the discussion which really  made a great impact and  the dialogue was facilitated  by Kyomya Macklean an Individual activist of key affected populations, HIV , SRHR and Policy  advocate, Finally sponsored by ATHENA under the Link up in Uganda.

UGANDA HARM REDUCTION NETWORK’S PARALEGAL WITH A LAWYER FROM HUMAN RIGHTS AWARENESS AND PROMOTION FORUM (HRAPF) ORGANIZED A STAKEHOLDERS MEETING IN KASANGATI WAKISO DISTRICT.

HELD   ON 13TH AUGUST 2013 AT UPLAND CLUB.

The main objective was to settle the conflicts between the Upland Brathel employees, Sex workers  and Chemonges the District Police Commander Kasangati (DPC).  We received a number of complaints from Upland Brathel Sex workers  that, the District Police Commander of Kasangati was normally torturing, harassing, arresting them and spraying inside their rooms with paper spray.
